How to take a good photo/video using AOS Vision app:
To take a good quality photo/video your eye needs to be in focus and you need good bright light.
Take the picture in front of a mirror with the lights on. You can also ask someone to take the photo/video for you.
Please use the back camera (not selfie mode) and turn on the flash. Zoom the camera to 1.5-2. There should be no shadows covering any part of your eye.
It may be helpful to hold the phone in your right hand when taking a picture of your right eye and left hand for your left eye.
Hold the phone 4-6 inches from your eye. Look in the mirror to ensure that the entire eye is clear and in focus. Use the volume button (iPhone users) or touch anywhere on the screen (Android users) to take the picture or start the video. Videos will stop after 20 seconds.
Do the following for each eye:
- Look up and blink
- Pull lower lid down and look up
- Look straight forward and blink
- Lateral, look left then right
- Look left then right
- Look up and pull bottom lid down
Click transfer to send images/videos to your eye care professional
Use the newest device you have.
You could also ask a family member/relative/friend to take the photo for you.
You can attempt to take a photo multiple times before transferring it to the AOS software.
The AOS software is optimised to grade images captured using a Slit Lamp, either digital (i.e. with inbuilt camera) or using the mobile app in a Slit Lamp adaptor. Using a Slit Lamp will produce images with more consistent lighting.
Images taken using a Topographer such as the Oculus K5 may be analysed and graded however the images will be darker which affects the grading. For instance an image captured using a slit lamp may have a redness grade of 1.8 and the same eye captured using a topographer will likely grade 0.5 – 0.6 higher due to the darker image. The grading will remain consistent but an image from a topographer will typically result in a higher grade.
The software was designed to be used in conjunction with a Slit Lamp therefore our recommendation is to use a Slit Lamp where possible. Though the results from a Topographer will be consistent, the grading results will differ from those captured using a Slit Lamp.
Ensure the image contains only the eye and local portion of the face
Avoid capturing the background i.e. parts of the room you are in
